  Married Ida Irene Taylor (grave marker for "Ida Irene Cunningham, 1809-1929, at Old Hall Cemetery, Denton County, Texas -- transcription is probably incorrect). Went by the nickname "Hood." Adopted an African- American child whose mother had died. The child's father asked if he would take the child in. Hood, who had 13 children of his own, said, "We have 13; one more won't make any difference!" He raised the child and saw that he finished school, but it is unknown whether he officially adopted the child or whether the child took his surname.
