Interesting, I'm also researching Huffs, including Nellie Huff. However, this is a different Nellie Huff. My great great grandmother, Nellie Huff, was born in Brooklyn, NY in Sept 1898. Her father, George Washington Huff, was born in March 1861 in Illinois. He was in the Army from the age of 17 (1879) until his death in 1902 (in Brooklyn, NY.) Nellie's mother was Mary Murphy born in Ireland in 1861 or thereabouts. Nellie also had a younger brother John, a sister Mary Kennedy and William.

Nellie married my great grandfather George A. Fields (from Everett, MA) and I know their history. Just looking for info on George W. Huff and his Illinois lineage.

All the best,
Mike

This Bowling line is descended from Thomas Bouldinge.
Look at Larry Darden Bowling's web site.....
and ((( Bolling family association ))))) http://www.bolling.net/

Boulden, Bolling, Bowling, Boulden, Bouldin, Boling are the different spellings of the name.

DNA has been tested in this line...

It is not the Benjamin Bolling line-sorry!

To be honest, I am not sure of a better one than Ancestry.com. There are just so many records, especially the census records.

How wonderful to come upon this site. My sister and I have recently started tracing our lineage and have come across the Boulding line. It goes as follows starting with the most recent:

Cheryl Mullee-Thomas Mullee father-Orean Cox-Bolin Cox-John James Cox-John Johnston Cox-Thomas Cox-and his father John Cox II who was married to Francenia Bouldin, daughter of Col Thomas Bouldin. I would love to stay connected to this group. My sister and I have asked my brother to do the DNA test but he lives in Texas and hasn't agreed yet.

What a great legacy. I don't think my bunch brought anything like that, but who knows? Maybe.

Probably! I know it seems like they were always working. We are lucky to have easier lives (in some ways).

I also heard this story and have listened to the podcast many times. It is so touching. When I went to Lafayette, LA, I tried to find the place where the child went missing put it appears to be on private property now. I especially felt that it was sad that the uncle, the mother, and some of the brothers and sisters did not live to find out the real truth and to know that the uncle's name had been cleared. I just loved Margaret. You could tell she is a very compassionate person.

One of the things that stuck out in your blog to me was the part where people stated the pain rather matter-of-factly. There is often not much emotion shown in old letters and diaries. I think that is partly because just surviving was such a difficult task that people did not have the opportunity for self-fulfillment. My great grandmother had nine children and only 5 lived to adulthood, and only 3 lived to an old age. Death and tragedy was so much a part of life that it was almost expected. I always notice in old pictures that not very many people smile. Most look downright tired and worn. It is so hard to even conceive of how hard life was for our ancestors.
